Position: Community Based Program Generalist (part-time, 20 hours per week)

Location: Center City, Philadelphia, PA

Schedule: Position requires a general schedule totaling 20 hours per workweek including some mornings, early afternoons, evenings, and weekends within the 9am-8pm range. Shifts generally range from 4-8 hours per day.

BBBS IR seeks a part-time Program Generalist, tasked with facilitating programming and supporting mentoring relationships consisting of adult volunteer mentors (“Bigs”), youth mentees (“Littles”) and their parents/guardians. The role of a Program Generalist is to support the BBBS IR Community-Based program through making Match Support calls, facilitating Match Meetings, and facilitating Match Activities. This job requires flexibility as the Program Generalist will be helping with the most needed items for the team. The position is based in a routine office environment and requires occasional travel with some evening/weekend work. This position may allow for occasional work-from-home shifts. Scheduling details will be described in the interview process.



  1. Introduce new matches by scheduling and facilitating initial in-person Match Meetings, which take place in clients’ homes and in BBBS IR offices; review ground rules and expectations during the Match Meeting to lay the foundation for a successful match relationship.
  2. Exercise critical thinking while providing support and education to Bigs, Littles, and parents/guardians on elements of positive relationship building, child safety, and youth development. Regular contact with each match is achieved primarily through telephone contact, but also through occasional e-mail and in-person conversations during Agency events.
  3. Determine if and ensure that indictors of positive relationship building, elements of child safety, and youth development, as well as a sense of affiliation with the Agency are present within each match relationship; identify, address, and help resolve problems and barriers to successful match relationships. Promptly inform supervisor regarding concerns about any factors that may negatively impact the match.
  4. Record match relationship observations and notes from calls/conversations with all match parties in the Agency’s online database system.
  5. Facilitate and participate in annual picnics, cultural events, sporting activities, and other Agency events.
  6. Continually develop skills and knowledge through Agency provided trainings.



Academic/Professional Requirements: Minimum – must have a bachelor’s degree per national Agency requirements or 8+ years’ experience in the field of direct social services. Must have a valid driver's license and consistent access to a car for the purpose of facilitating off-site Match Meetings. Experience in human services, with youth service organizations and socioeconomically diverse populations is preferred. Spanish-speaking skills are a plus.  Must possess the ability to effectively utilize BBBS IR’s internal database systems for tracking and recording information.
